Mindfulness @ SAOL and SNUG
Mindfulness Based Relapse Prevention (MBRP)
Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) has been taught and researched in clinical settings in the USA for over 20 years, and has proven to be of considerable benefit to patients suffering from chronic pain, generalised anxiety disorder, and cancer amongst other populations. Mindfulness training enables patients to access their own resources for responding in positive ways to chronic illness and has been shown to result in both subjective and objective improvements in health status.
Mindfulness Based Relapse Prevention (MBRP) was developed at the University of Washington, by Professor Alan Marlatt, Director of the Addictive Behaviour Research Centre. He has been researching the effectiveness of mindfulness based therapy in relapse prevention for addictive behaviours for many years.
